How Does Stress Counseling Help?
At The Dell Center for Therapy, we work with clients in Salt Lake City, Provo, West Valley and Park City to find coping mechanisms that diffuse the mental and physical strains caused by severe or chronic stress. Through cognitive behavioral therapy, you can find new ways to ease the mental and emotional imbalances caused by stress and anxiety, giving yourself the freedom to find joy in everyday life.
Once you are able to view things from a different vantage point and process what’s going on in a new way, it becomes easier to mentally address specific stressful situations as they come up. As a result, you can reduce your risk of secondary illnesses or injuries caused by the physical strain that stress puts on your body. You may never be able to completely eliminate stress from your life, but finding new ways to deal with it can lessen its severity on your wellbeing.
“Am I Dealing with Too Much Stress?”
Even exciting milestones like having a baby or buying a new home add stress to our lives. When multiple milestones or life changing events occur at once, it can be too much for us to emotionally or physically “process.” As a result, we can experience problems like high blood pressure, anxiety attacks, or even depression.
Here are just a few examples of everyday events that could negatively affect you, when they seemingly happen all within a short period of time:
- Lack of adequate sleep
- Job changes for you or your partner/spouse (including retirement)
- Moving to a new town or buying a house
- Marriages or births in the family
- Loss of a loved one
- Marital or relationship problems
- Panic attacks
- Personal injuries or illnesses
- Auto accidents
- Financial problems
- Children starting or graduating from school
- Major holidays
- Large debts
- Vacations and work trips
- Legal problems, including traffic tickets
